The Plant Academy - A Culinary Kitchen School to Inspire and create
evolve and grow and be part of this plant-based space built on a true community, real creativity and forward-thinking educational process.
A PASSION FOR PLANTS
The Plant Hub Is a dynamic new plant based Culinary Academy and Kitchen coming soon to East London! Our Aim is to Inspire a passion for plants through building a community where we can all learn from the most inspiring chefs and foodies to empower the nation with the knowledge to make and enjoy more plant-based food.
The Academy
This campaign is specifically for our Academy. At the Plant Academy our courses focus on the most important topics in the realms of plants taught by Lauren and David alongside classically trained chefs, professional nutritionists and influential plant-based leaders. We know from our own studies over some years that it’s not just about the learning but also very much about the people you meet and the inspiration derived from working with them. Spending time with others who are equally curious and eager to learn can be life changing.
This is an opportunity to create an inclusive community that inspires health, creativity and teaches vital life skills in a dynamic plant powered way. With your help, through pledges, The Academy can buy the equipment needed to equip a professional kitchen, from which we will deliver the classes. From specialised equipment, fridges and freezers to work stations, chopping boards and rolling pins, your pledge will enable us to create an inspiring and well-equipped space to teach these dynamic classes.
Our Academy exists alongside a plant-based café and deli, which together form the Plant Hub - a friendly social space to eat, share, learn and inspire.
We can teach up to 16 students at a time offering tuition with course leaders and assistants to support and inspire the training process. With classes for new cooks and budding entrepreneurs, to specialist classes for businesses and advanced programs for classically trained chefs, this Academy will focus on inspiring the plant-based movement and supporting the growing vegan scene.
Ethos
Our concept and ethos are simple: we are creating a hub, an incubator, a sharing space and research centre for plant excellence. Using hyper local seasonal ingredients, supporting local producers and connecting with the community, we are focussed on teaching good skills, inspiring a connection with food and bringing joy to culinary creativity.
Why Plants?
Well mainly because we have a passion for them. So We are lucky that In recent years, the population of many countries across the world is seeing a huge cultural shift towards a more plant-based lifestyle. People are increasingly conscious of what they eat, how it nurtures their health and the health of our planet. There is a huge opportunity for most people to eat more plants, but still there is a demand for learning in order for people to derive the maximum benefit.
Currently, 3.5 million people in the UK are vegan (Compare the Market, 2018 Survey) and there are many more who identify as vegetarian, with even greater numbers who simply want to explore a more plant-based lifestyle, in order to live in a healthier way.
In London, this demand for a healthier lifestyle is reflected in the thriving scene of plant-based restaurants, plant-based menus at chain restaurants, street food markets and dedicated food & lifestyle stores. Staff need to be trained, chefs need plant-based inspiration and entrepreneurs need support. The success of these is proof that people are energised, interested and willing to invest in their own health through their food intake.
"Plant-based meat and dairy alternatives are not just for vegetarians or vegans anymore; now even mainstream consumers are enjoying these delicious and innovative options in the market today." (plant based news 2018)
This is not just a trend it's a lifestyle shift and as we launch for this years 'Veganuary' campaign, to which last year grew by 183% this year, with 168,542 people signing up to go vegan (veganuary 2018), we know this market is estimated to grow continue to grow alreadys growing from £559m in 2016 to £658m in 2021 (Source: Mintel ‘meat free food’ report, UK, May 2017)!
Who We Are
Having always been passionate about making food, Lauren pursued her passion to become a plant-based chef. This desire to share nutritious and mesmerising plant food led her to worked as head chef of the aspirational vegan restaurant named Asparagasm for two years in the Cotswolds. From its creation, Lauren went on to train with Matthew Kenney Culinary in California, USA and then went on to be a Lead Instructor at the PlantLab School in Barcelona.
Lauren has a keen for fine plating, excels at creating exciting plant-based food, specialising in Raw Desserts, styling and Innovative ideas for the plant powered generation constantly making connections with unique people, producers and suppliers. Always using Natural Ingredients. Elevated.
Having started his blog some years ago, Salad Pride, about making salads at his desk, at a time when healthy food was not as readily available as it is today, David brought his own ingredients into the office to make nutritious lunches. He began a blog about his recipes which turned into an international book. His love for healthy food led him to open Pride Kitchen café in Covent Garden, serving plant powered lunches to the people of London.
Together
Lauren and David have co-founded the Plant Hub with the Vision of bringing aspirational plant-based food to London, making health focussed and forward-thinking classes accessible to people in the UK, together with the best plant-based thought leaders to inspire budding entrepreneurs, new chefs and all health-conscious people to better understand and enjoy eating well.
So, with our knowledge and shared passion, we have found the most amazing space in Mare Street, East London, which is the location of our Plant Hub, where you can eat plant- based food, learn new skills and connect with other passionate people. It's coming together really well …. But we need your help!
